MiCA may affect DeFi and NFTs. Investors are disappointed with Solana. A user lost nearly $1 million in USDT due to a phishing scam. PayPal’s stablecoin has launched on Polygon

The European Parliament has proposed extending MiCA regulations to DeFi and NFTs

European lawmakers have spoken out in favor of further expanding regulation of the crypto market. They propose tightening controls over decentralized finance (DeFi), crypto lending, staking (earning rewards for locking up coins), and non-fungible tokens (NFTs).

The initiative came shortly after the end of the MiCA transition period. Starting July 1, cryptocurrency companies in the European Union must operate under new requirements, including mandatory licensing.

Now, European policymakers intend to regulate the areas of the crypto industry that were not included in the initial MiCA version. One of the main goals is to prevent different requirements for DeFi and NFTs from emerging in individual EU member states.

Investor pessimism toward Solana has reached a record high

Market participants’ sentiment toward Solana has become the most negative since the beginning of 2026, and trading activity has fallen to a one-year low. Investors are dissatisfied that the ecosystem’s development has not yet been reflected in the price of SOL. As of July 13, 2026, the token continues to decline, trading around $76.

However, analysts view the current situation as a potentially positive sign. In their opinion, strong pessimism among retail investors could set the stage for a sharp price recovery.

Meanwhile, within the Solana ecosystem, interest in tokenized assets (digital versions of real-world assets) is growing. The volume of spot trading in such instruments increased from $2.69 billion in the first quarter to $5.7 billion in the second.

Experts also note the network’s strong performance: the total supply of stablecoins exceeds $15 billion, and the number of active addresses reaches 1 million per day. Analysts expect that capital may shift from speculative memecoins to the DeFi sector in the future, which will positively affect Solana’s price.

Crypto wallet owner loses nearly $1 million in USDT due to phishing

The investor lost nearly 1 million USDT after approving a dangerous transaction on a fraudulent website. The incident was recorded on the Ethereum network on July 8, 2026.

The attackers first attempted to withdraw exactly 1 million USDT from the account using the multicall function (executing multiple actions simultaneously). However, the transaction failed because the available balance was slightly less than the requested amount.

After that, the scammers split the transaction into three transfers: 639,999 USDT, 159,999 USDT, and 200,000 USDT. The wallet of the recipient of the stolen cryptocurrency has already been flagged as a phishing wallet on the Etherscan blockchain explorer.

How do scammers pull off schemes like this?

  1. A user visits a phishing website that appears to be a legitimate crypto service and connects their wallet to it.
  2. The site prompts the user to confirm a transaction — for example, to exchange tokens, claim a reward, or integrate with the service.
  3. In reality, the user is signing a malicious authorization granting access to their cryptocurrency.
  4. Once the authorization is granted, the scammers run an automated script that transfers the assets from the victim’s wallet to an account they control.

Experts recommend carefully checking every request before confirming cryptocurrency transactions and not rushing into transactions. Users are also advised to install special security browser extensions, which help detect phishing sites and other fraudulent services.

Revolut sent 80% of reports on suspicious transactions in Lithuania

About 80% of notifications regarding suspicious financial transactions in Lithuania over the past year came from Revolut Bank. Of the 100,000 reports received by the country’s Financial Crime Investigation Service (FNTT), approximately 80,000 were submitted by the fintech service.

Revolut attributed this figure to its use of AI and automated monitoring systems. Algorithms analyze customer transfers around the clock and identify potential fraud.

The large number of reports is also due to the scale of the business: Revolut serves 57 million customers in the European Economic Area, including about 750,000 people in Lithuania.

The company notes that the systems are intentionally configured to thoroughly detect suspicious activity. This approach helps combat financial crime, but it can lead to erroneous account freezes and additional customer verifications.

PayPal has expanded the use of its PYUSD stablecoin on the Polygon network

PayPal has integrated its PYUSD stablecoin into Polygon’s payment infrastructure. The new solution will allow companies to use the digital asset for international transfers and other transactions.

Polygon’s Open Money Stack combines banking services, blockchain tools, and compliance solutions into a single system. Thanks to this, businesses will be able to accept funds, exchange them to PYUSD, and convert them back to fiat currencies without having to connect to multiple separate services.

PayPal notes that the integration will help simplify cross-border payments, reduce the number of intermediaries, and speed up transactions. PYUSD is issued by Paxos, a regulated financial services company.

Representatives from Polygon and Paxos believe that the launch will expand the use of stablecoins for corporate settlements and international transfers.
